It draws from mid-20th-century classroom films and public domain archives, placing scenes of discipline, conformity, and quiet control alongside flashes of chaos, rebellion, and cathartic release.
The footage shows what happens when systems built for order suppress the messier needs of human growth: curiosity, emotion, movement, and connection. These systems swing between order and revolt, but this tension runs deeper. What about freedom, especially intellectual, personal, and communal freedom? And what happens when that swing goes too far?
The song, once playful and suggestive, plays with a kind of bitter irony towards the institutionalized educational machine. The song's driving beat and rebellious tone entertain, distract, and fetishize. When reframed, the song highlights the pressure building under the surface. It’s the sound of unmet needs trying to break out.
